Dew Berry Hill

We are so grateful to have a whole hillside full of dew berries on our land.  They produce every year, but have found that they do better every other year.  This year was a low production year and we really had to search to find even a few quarts.  The berries grow low to the ground and the new growth, which is full of fine hair like thorns, overshadow the berries.  Luke joined me one afternoon, but with picking more thorns out of his skin than berries off the plants, it quickly lost it's appeal.  I did manage to make a few jars of syrup for our pancakes, but not as much as I had hoped.  Next year, if at all like last, we will have jars of berries coming out our ears!
