Weekend Sewing

I half hoped we'd be able to make a trip up to the land this weekend, but spring hasn't exactly sprung yet.  It's only going to be in the 20's for the next few days, so instead we're working on some indoor projects.

I've gotten the spring sewing bug, so I made a few new zipper pouches.  A change pouch for Luke, pencil cases for Jake and Cole, and a knitting needle case for me.  All made from hand dyed hemp and organic cotton.

Our onion seedlings are coming along nicely.  We planted a tray of leeks earlier this week and have many more onions to get started.  Now where to put all these trays?  No flat surface is safe.  I may have to talk Mike into building a cold frame or we're going to run out of space!

Are you working on any projects this weekend?

  1. Your sewing is wonderful and those colors are just fantastic. Do you give your colors names?
Spring hasn't sprung here either, woke up to snow this morning again! even splashed out on store bought daffodils yesterday as mine won't be putting in an appearance for some time yet.
I'm gathering together my supplies to make a cold frame, just clicked on your link and it's the same tutorial as I'm using (my husband will be using!!) I've planted corn, two types of squash, cornichons and kale in my jiffy planters and in recycled newspaper (100% vegetable based ink) pots. Are you planning on raised beds or traditional planting?
I'm also doing a bit of sewing this weekend - a simple shoulder bag for a friend - I'm not ready for zippers yet. Making up some flower bunting too - I need color in all this never ending white stuff.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    1. Thanks, Emma. I really love how hemp fabric dyes up soft and earthy.

I think we're going to do lasagna style planting, but I'm not sure yet. We really want to avoid tilling, but I'm not sure if that's going to be feasible with a one acre garden. I really wanted to make newspaper pots with the boys, but I read that lots of folks have had issues with mold. Have you had any issues?
