Steeking

Steeking.  It's one of my favorite parts of knitting.  Turning a pullover into a cardigan.  Even the boys were in awe at the prospect of putting scissors to wool.  They circled around, holding their breath, until the first snip, then the second.  Only when I'd made if safely through, did they remember to breathe.  Steeking still makes me a little nervous too, but it's so much better than the alternative.... purling.

Now, for the button bands, neck shaping and a sleeve.

What projects are you planning for the weekend?

  4. I still haven't tried Steeking yet. Did you practice on swatches before 'going for it' on a garment? I can 'knit' continental style but not the purl stitch so the idea of knitting a sweater/cardigan in the round is very appealing.
This weekend I'm aiming to finish my 'mystery kal' shawl - the rows of lace work have about 400+ stitches so they are taking sooo long!
Have a good weekend - the snow has eased off here for the time being and this morning we have beautiful blue skies.

    1. Oh, that's a lot of stitches! It will be so worth it when you're done though, won't it.

I didn't use a sample the first time I steeked, but I would highly recommend it! It would have taken a lot of the stress out of the first cut.

  7. I am scared to steek.
But I also hate to purl. . . so perhaps I may find that steeking is wonderful after all. I wonder, is there a first project you'd recommend?

    1. Maybe you could try it on a doll sweater? Not much time involved and then you end up with something useful when you're done, instead of just a swatch.
