I Have Lyme Disease

With a nasty case of the flu making it's way through the house, I'm making my way through an illness of my own.  Last week, I found out I have Lyme disease.  As I look back over the last several months it seems obvious; aching joints, nausea, dizziness, weakness, etc., but it wasn't until the tell tale red ring showed up on my back that I knew exactly what was going on.  I needed a visit to the doctor.  He put me on a month of antibiotics and a diet of immune boosting foods, along with lots of rest and sleep.

It's times like this that I'm so grateful to be homeschooling and working from home.  Projects are finished when I've got the energy and I'm able to rest when I need to.  It's been our biggest holiday season ever for the shop, and Mike has been a huge help getting all of the holiday orders out in time!

So, we're only doing as much as necessary for the holiday season.  Celebrations will be very simple and more gifts may be purchased online, instead of made by hand.  I've made peace with it though, and am looking forward to our annual 12 Days of Solstice.... even if I do have to trade caramel corn and cookies for pomegranates and blueberries.

  5. Oh dear - hope you recover soon. At least the prescribed treatment is not unpleasant. Enjoy your simple restful Christmas by the fire as much as you can.

  6. Sorry to hear that, especially at this time of year. But maybe its a positive - you now have an official excuse to sit by the woodstove all winter and read, knit, and craft! Blueberry muffins, blueberry oatmeal bars, maybe chocolate brownies with pomegranate seeds?

  8. I feel for you! I am a fellow Lyme sufferer.you are lucky that you developed the classic rash,so it was easily diagnosed.I had one of the o the bite site reactions that look like a bruise,so I did not receive my diagnosis until I had suffered for over 10yrs.the damage was done, and I have dealt with the effects for over25yrs.if you aren't familiar with everything about Lyme and what can happen after you contract it,you should do your homework...your md' s recommendations are good, and I hope you nip this thing in the bud.take it easy, take care of yourself and try to enjoy your simple holiday festivities.sending you healing light and energy and good wishes!!!!

  12. Liz,
Sorry to hear that, but also grateful that you found out what was going on. There are two other bloggers that have experience dealing with Lyme disease and maybe you already read their blogs. Lisa of Hullabaloo Homestead and Rachel of Clean. Maybe they have some good sources of information too. It's always nice to know you're not alone in going through something.

    Love to you!
    Taryn

  13. hello
I recently started to read your blog , which is very beautiful!!!
I read an article on this 12.12.2013 that you have lyme disease
me too, I started an antibiotic cure of 4 weeks in november, the bacterie still isn't gone but my doctor prefers to wait
I'd like to do someting instead of waiting.... so I'm reading about the diet you have to follow could you please come to me by email and give me some more information if you want to
I would be very grateful, here in Belgium, we treat Lyme disease very traditionally but I would really want to help myself my body to struggle out of this illness. I recognize what you fell, no energy, always feeling sick but not sick enough to stay in bed, .... thanks in advance Hilde my email adress : hildep@hotmail.fr

    1. I'm sorry you're having to go through this, too, Hilde. I recently picked up this book, http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Lyme-Prevention-Borreliosis-Coinfections/dp/0970869630
I'm hopeful it will have information about keeping the lyme under control. I also picked up some keifer grains to help my gut normalize after the antibiotics. I've still been feeling run down and tired, so I'm also going to start taking magnesium supplements and see if that helps. Best of luck to you.
