healing
We lie in the stillness of the night, his fragile body upon my chest. The rise and fall of his breath. The calm that the slow and steady rhythm brings to us both. Just like when he was a baby, except now he's nine and doesn't quite fit in the crook of my neck. The intention is the same, though. Giving him comfort and security through the magic of touch and closeness; a little peace in this unfamiliar territory. Yes, peace is exactly what we need after the weekend we had... He fell. Head first off a climbing sculpture at Franconia Park. He chipped three teeth and broke both wrists. Until the swelling goes down, he will wear the splints. Then the casts, and when the pain is a little more manageable, we'll see about the dentist. For now we're reminded of how life was with a newborn, slow and engrossed in an intoxicating amount of love for this boy.

ReplyDeleteOh my. My eldest broke her wrist once, and oh, the pain. Sending healing energy your way...
ReplyDeleteHope he gets better soon and keeps climbing everything. Give him looooots of love, it can heal anything. Thinking of you...
ReplyDeletePraying for healing Liz. Our little Emmy broke her collar bone about 12 days ago and I know a bit of what you are going through except she has not had the lasting pain. Thinking of you and him.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I hope Emmy is recovering well.
DeleteOh that is some fall! Poor guy. Sending many get well wishes x
ReplyDeleteOh no! Sending you and your little guy all the love and healing thoughts I can!
ReplyDeleteOh sweet boy, so sad. When I was a girl I broke my wrists and was very much better fairly fast, children have amazing healing properties and inner strength. I was back to gymnastics within 3 months. My boy broke an arm last year but two at the same time, phew that's hard for you all. Must be tiring for you though, make sure you nourish yourself too at this time as you will be running on empty. x
ReplyDeleteI did have to remind myself to take a few minutes away from the house everyday. It's such a relief to have Mike come home from work and take over for a bit.
DeletePoor kid! Poor you! That must have been so scary. I hope he didn't hit his head! I have a grown son (mine's 21) and I can tell you that this is likely the first of many trips to the ER. Mine broke his arm twice times and his nose once and recently had to have stitches.
ReplyDeleteThe arms were falls-once with a friend tackling him in football, the other going over the handle bars of his bike. His nose was broken in a rugby game and the stitches were only a few months ago-he broke a glass he was washing and slit his hand wide open. That one was pretty bad. He texted me and asked me to meet him in the ER-he's grown, on his own, but still wanted his mum.
It's scary when it happens, but so is the nature of boys. Wishing your little guy a speedy recovery and hoping he's not in alot of pain.
oh my gosh! i hope there is a speedy recovery. ((hug)) to all of you.
ReplyDeleteHere's to intoxicating love that will heal all things! My love and healing energy to you all xoxo
