out with the old, in with the new

Out with the old, in with the new is my mantra for the new year.  No resolutions.  No lists.  Just the thrill of what lies in store for our next trip around the sun!

Here's a fun project to start the new year off right {Thanks so much to my friend, Tracy, for teaching us this project!}

A stack of old and new pieces of artwork.

Trace and cut out about a gazillion circles {in multiples of eight to be exact}  Don't limit yourself to circles, either.  Any symmetrical shape will work!

 Fold all of the circles in half, with the plain side on the outside.

For each one, select eight pieces and glue them together so that the creases are toward the center.  When you are ready to glue the final flap in place, lay a piece of string down the center and close.  {I hope it all makes sense, as I forgot to photograph this part.}

Tie a loop in each end of the string for hanging and enjoy!

Happy New Year to you all, I know it's going to be a good one!

  4. I love your statement, "... our next trip around the sun." For me, that was a very moving statement for reasons I don't know how to explain. I also love the art project and will try it with my son. Are the 8 circles stacked, glued, and then refolded so that it spreads out in a fan formation?

  5. What a great craft idea!!! I will be writing lists but that is because I like looking back and seeing what I managed to get done. But I totally get the idea. Thanks for sharing this craft.

  6. Tameka, I felt the same way after I wrote it! I googled folded paper ornaments and found this link to someone else who made them with some great photos! Hope this helps: http://www.botanicalpaperworks.com/blog/read,article/256/diy-plantable-paper-christmas-ornaments
