Let the festivities begin...

It is tradition in our family that each person gets a birthday weekend.  Jake is turning fourteen on Saturday, so it will be four days of doing whatever (within reason) the boy can dream up.  I was sure it would entail me having to touch a worm and a slimy fish, but his only request from me; no computer for the next four days!  I will gladly oblige, and be back here on Tuesday with lots of pics and stories of adventures.  Have a wonderful weekend~

Gluten Free ~ Full Moon Flat Bread Recipe

After many sad and pitiful attempts at gluten free flat bread and tortillas, I've come up with a recipe that even my non~gf husband will eat, Full Moon Flat Bread.  They are also great as a tortilla, if you roll them really thin!

Gluten Free ~ Full Moon Flat Bread Recipe::
3c. gluten free flour mix
1 1/2 tsp. xanthan gum
2 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1c. warm water

Mix all of the dry ingredients together.  Add water and mix until smooth.  Divide dough into 8 balls and on a floured surface, roll dough thin like a pie crust.  Heat a small amount of oil in a griddle and cook until golden brown on both sides.  Cool and serve.  We love it with tacos, cream cheese and veggies, pb&j, and honey!

Enjoy and don't forget to take a walk under the light of the moon tonight~

A Great Lakes Wedding...

A four hour drive up the North Shore of Lake Superior brought us to the wedding of two lovely friends, Rebekah and Patrick...

And the suprise...  Many moons ago, my friend Tracy came up with the idea to make a hand knit quilt for Rebekah and Patrick's wedding gift.  She rounded up five talented knitting friends (who also know and love Rebekah & Patrick), asked us each to pick a color and set to knitting six 12"x12" garter stitch squares.  Over the course of the weekend,  we stitched and wove together all of our blessings and good intentions to create something that will surround them with love and kindness, always.

Creative release...

Took a break from designing new longies and pattern making for an instantly gratifying creative release. I'm enamored with how much this free~form creation suits his spirit...

Open air market & movie in the park...

Every Tuesday night in Stillwater, local businesses host an open air market along with music and a movie at dusk.  For one last Summer Tuesday, I insisted that on a perfect evening such as this, we make the trek down to the river valley.  (and yes, it's the same river in yesterday's post!)
(I really must have one of these!)

I bought of few of the bricks for finishing my cedar buttons!

Adventuring...

In our attempt to defeat the beginning of the week blues, we've decided to make Monday our day of adventuring!  Each week a new or long forgotten park.  A different library.  And a lot of fun~

Our original plan entailed a fun outdoor play space called Teddy Bear Park.  However, 100 screaming three year olds detoured us to the river for a few hours...

After a good run with the gulls and filling our bellies with some delicious treats from the co~op, we rested under the arms of a welcoming oak tree.  A gentle breeze in our hair and the sounds of water lapping against the rocks lulled them both to sleep...

Sssshhh.  I can't reveal too much, but I have a surprise to show you next Monday.  Here's a sneak peek and a clue...

thirty garter stitch squares

Oh yes, we did make it to Teddy Bear Park, but fake rock and astroturf isn't really our style.  Have a wonderful week~
